Introduction

You may have found a Science or Social Studies skill that you have completed in IXL, maybe even multiple times, but it stays on Dash, and you're getting concerned. Don't worry! This article will explain what's going on with these special skills. 

How do I know if I have one of these special skills? 

Look for these 3 things: 

1.  When you open the skill to work on it, there is no SmartScore counter. 
   • For example, this is a unit without a SmartScore counter, which means it's a special skill, so keep reading if you have one of these! 
     
     
     
   • For reference regular skills have a SmartScore counter, like this one:
     If you complete a regular skill and it's not removed from Dash the next day, contact the Support Team and share the skill, the date completed, and the issue. 
2. When you finish the skill, check the score and the medal. If the medal is not gold and the score is not 100, you have one of these skills. 
   
   
   
3. You already completed the unit, but when you open it again, there is no gold medal. 
   • You are sure that you completed the skill, but when you open it again, there is no gold medal. That means you have one of these special skills, so keep reading!

OK, I have one of these special skills, what do I do? 

It's very straightforward! You just need to make sure that you finish the skill with a score of 100, and then it will be really Mastered! 

1. Work carefully through every question and answer. 👀
2. If you answer correctly all of the questions in each section, you will reach the end with a score of 100, and you will be done! 🥳 The skill will disappear from Dash the next day. 
3. If you made a few mistakes along the way, don't worry! 😅 You will reach a Bonus Section! If you answer all questions in the Bonus Section correctly, you will get a score of 100! 
4. If you made mistakes in the Bonus Section, or the skill ended without a Bonus Section, just start the skill again (open it again after it ends), and do your best! We know you can do it, and you will now have extra experience to crush it! 💪🏼

Some special IXL Science and Social Studies Skills have a different scoring system that doesn't rely on a SmartScore counter. To master these special skills you need to finish with a score of 100. To do this: 

1. Work carefully through each question to avoid careless errors.

1. Do I need to get all questions right to get my score to 100? 

• No.
• First, you will go through all the sections of the skill. If you make mistakes, that's OK! As long as your accuracy stays high, you will reach a "Bonus Section".
• Here's where it get's interesting: To get a score of 100, you need to get all questions in the Bonus Section correct. That's why it comes at the end, once you know everything you need to know about the skill. 

2. Why do I need to repeat a skill in Science or Social Studies even if I have finished it?

As you know, Alpha has very high quality standards; that's why you're here: we know you can do great! As with any other IXL skills, they are considered mastered only when they are finished with a score of 100. If you run out of questions and your score was less than 100, you will need to repeat the skill. 

Don't worry, and just pay attention to all the questions! With the experience you gained, it will be way easier for you to get 100 the second time around!  😎

3. What happens when I master a skill?

When a skill is mastered (finished with a score of 100), it will no longer appear on the Dash and you will receive a gold medal for the skill.
