Introduction

Wondering when you'll be ready to move to the next grade level? We've got the answer! To progress to the next grade level, all you need to do is demonstrate mastery of the subject at your current grade level. 

How to move up to the next grade

To make the leap to the next grade level, follow these steps:

1. Take the mastery test: When you finish all skills for a grade on Dash (including all "Knowledge Gap" skills, if you have any), you will get a test assigned on Dash the next day. Make sure to follow the order from top to bottom, as the tests can only be assigned in the right order. 

   • You may be wondering if you can take a test before finishing all the skills in a grade, because you already feel prepared for it. If this is an option for you, you will have a "Test Out" button enabled on Dash that you can use to get a test assigned; you will only get one chance to pass the test, and if you don't pass it on your first try, you need to finish all the skills in the grade before being able to try again. 
   • If you don't see the "Test Out" button or you have one but it's disabled (or greyed out), you have to finish all the skills in that grade before being able to take a mastery test. 
2. Attend post-test coaching and confirm your score: Let your Guide know that you finished the test, and they will schedule a post-test coaching session with you. 
   • The "real score" indicates how many answers you got right out of the total. 
   • If your "real score" is 90% or more, congratulations! You have passed the test, and you should start receiving recommendations from the next grade level the day after passing the test. 
   • If your "real score" is less than 90%, we will look at how many "careless mistakes" you made, and calculate your "potential score" counting them as correct answers (because we know you have the knowledge, and got the question wrong for a different reason).
     • If this "potential score" is 90% or more, you will be allowed to start working on the next grade level! 🥳 But beware! You still need to try a test for the same grade again and get a "real score" of at least 90%! 

3. Complete Knowledge Gap Skills: A few days after the post-test coaching, you may see some "Knowledge Gap" skills added to your Dash list. You need to master them, even if you have already mastered some of them before. They will give you the knowledge you need the most! 

   • If you didn't pass the test with a "real score" of at least 90%, you will be able to try again after you finish all the "Knowledge Gap" skills, starting the process again from step 1. 

Why It Matters

Moving up to the next grade level means you're getting better at school and learning important things. Doing well on the Mastery Test and learning the "Knowledge Gap" Skills shows that you're ready for new and exciting challenges.

To move to the next grade level, you need to follow these steps: 

1. Take the mastery test. If you see a "Test Out" button that you can click on Dash and is enabled, you can get a test assigned when you feel ready to master it. If not, you need to complete all skills for that grade first and a test will be automatically assigned to you the next day. 
2. Attend post-test coaching and confirm your score. The passing score is 90% or more, but you will be allowed to start working on the next grade level if the reason for scoring less than 90% was careless mistakes. In any case, you still need to retry tests for the same grade if you scored less than 90%, no matter why, until you pass with 90% or more. 
3. Complete Knowledge Gap Skills. If any were added to Dash, complete them in order from top to bottom, even if you have completed them before. If you need to retake the test, it will be assigned on Dash the day after you complete all Knowledge Gap Skills.
