‘ERR_PROXY_CONNECTION_FAILED’ error: GoGuardian installation issues leading to ‘No internet’

If a single device fails to connect while using the browser with errors pointing to:

  • Browser says “No internet”
  • Browser says “There is something wrong with the proxy server”
  • Error code ERR_PROXY_CONNECTION_FAILED

The issue may be related to GoGuardian rather than to an internet outage.

What's happening?

When GoGuardian fails to start (or install) properly, it starts blocking the entire proxy instead of the relevant sites.

When the proxy is blocked, this means that even if the device is connected, it won't be able to access the internet.

What the campus staff should do?

  1. Ensure the device is connected to the internet.
  2. If the device is new or was recently reassigned, it may have missed enrollment steps.
    • Our GoGuardian implementation relies heavily on metrics established during device enrollment.
    • Missed or incorrect enrollment steps can lead to wrong-profile behavior or device issues.
    • Restart the enrollment.
  3. Try turning the device off and on again.
    • This is not the same as a restart.
    • GoGuardian relies heavily on booting the device properly.
    • Devices that stay asleep for long periods can have GoGuardian issues.

If the issue continues after re-enrollment and a full power cycle, contact Support and share the device type, the enrollment step that failed, and any error messages or screenshots.
