At Alpha School, students earn credit the first time they master a unit. Some believe they should also get credit when they complete the unit again, but:
- It would give false progress data. Remastering a unit is about reviewing, and counting it as regular masteries might make it seem like students are progressing more than they actually are.
- It could be used unfairly. If students got credit every time they remastered a unit, some might rush through content the first time just to earn extra credit later.
Because of this, students only get credit for a unit the first time they master it. However, Guides can still track student progress through the Knowledge Gap Tracker. While remastering does not earn credit, this tool helps Guides:
- See how many Knowledge Gaps each student is working on.
- Provide extra support when needed.
- Monitor progress and manually reward students without changing standard credit policies.
